Melissa Mills has been photographing people for close to two decades, weddings, portraits, and the occasional thing that doesn't fit neatly into either.

She comes from a big Italian family, the kind where dinner goes three hours and everyone talks at once. That upbringing left its mark. She's drawn to people, to the energy in a room, to the moment that happens just before or just after the one everyone's watching.

Her approach is driven by intuition, curiosity and craving for the offbeat moments. Sometimes she steps back and waits. Sometimes she steps in and constructs something. The line between the two isn't always visible in the final image and that's deliberate. There's a point of view in every frame, even when nothing was staged.

She has travelled to 45 countries, holds an Italian passport, and does some of her best work somewhere unfamiliar where everyone, including her, is paying closer attention.

Melissa lives in Perth with her husband and two children. She takes a limited number of weddings each year and is available internationally.

She’s based in Perth and available everywhere else. She holds an Italian passport, travels regularly through Europe, and has a running list of places she’d love to be sent - New York, Paris, Morocco, Japan, Russia. If your wedding is somewhere interesting, its always worth asking.
