WHY FILM PHOTOGRAPHY FOR WEDDINGS

Film Photography for your wedding. Why film? What you need to know.

It would seem film photography has returned with a vengeance and I'm so here for it.

These days I get a tonne of requests from couples asking me if I shoot for film for weddings. I've been curious if it's more of a trend or if couples understand more about film than I realise.

Film Vs Digital Photography for weddings.

Film medium has an unmatched quality and beauty that cannot be replicated. The colours, tones and feeling you get from film is nostalgic at its core. Something I feel that advanced digital cameras with all their perfect files can't seem to replicate.

But does that mean I shouldn't have digital photos?

Absolutely not. Im a big believer both film and digital each have their own place. In order for film to demonstrate its beautiful qualities it needs be exposed to light. The right amount for the right amount of time and sometimes that's just not possible. Underexposed images to me are not 'art' they are simply underexposed. Although that's not to say they too don't have their place at times too.

So what should I be looking for?

At the end of the day when choosing a photographer I'm not sure it would be a deal breaker. As long as you like what you see in their portfolio then that's a great start. Artists will use whatever tools they see fit to create the aesthetic they want, you just need to trust in their ability.

But if it is a deal breaker for you and you do want to know what to look for take a look here.
